And a feeling of absolute despair washed over me as I watched all the military commercials from Lockheed Martin and Haliburton and the rest. I still remember that feeling wash over me. Cold and ominous. But I later came to know more about Pat Buchanan when I heard him interviewed from time to time. I quickly realized I had more in common with him than any international capitalist, socialist or communist. And of course he had the quote of quotes on American politics. The definitive quote on the state of the union:
"Today, candor compels us to admit that our vaunted two-party system is a snare and a delusion, a fraud upon the nation. Our two parties have become nothing but two wings of the same bird of prey."

Venting is usually therapeutic and a worthy practice. Being able to justify and explain why you continue to support your beliefs, is a character trait we all should emulate. Many people change over time, whether or not that is good or bad depends on the direction of the change.
The evidence you provided about Trump’s changes, seem to score on the good side to me. Usually the longer you are guided by righteous beliefs the better it is for everyone.
We are likely to be kidding ourselves if we believe every past action or belief will pass the smell test because perfection is a goal to strive for, but an unlikely one we will ever achieve.
Every time I feel like I don’t need anyone except myself, I bump into the reality of how much I miss loved ones who have passed or who are just too geographically distant to be enjoyed.
After viewing the video you shared, of Trump’s interview when he was much younger, I’m amazed about his enduring quality of charisma. He is likable even when he expresses opinions that I don’t agree with.
